with Beethel, place unknown; from whom purchased by I.Q. van Regteren Altena on 10 July 1929 for 12.42 guilders (Inventory book: '730. t. J. Andriessen zelfportret?') (1) and for 5 guilders (Inventory book: '732. t. J. Andriessen een boerin') (2).

Specialist note

The man shown wearing a tricorn hat in the first drawing in the present lot has some striking physiognomic similarities to a self-portrait of Andriessen, executed at the age of 23 in 1765 (Koninklijk Oudheidkundig Genootschap, Amsterdam, inv. KOG, Atlas Amsterdam, Portretten, portefeuille I; image from the RKD).
