The Daytona is an undisputed icon of watchmaking. One of its most intriguing aspects is its ability to constantly change and evolve without betraying its original style, but simply reinterpreting it according to the fashion of the time. The so-called "beach" version is one of the most striking examples of this ability to reinterpret itself. The familiar layout of the dial - with its three counters - and the design of the case make this model an unmistakable Daytona, but the vibrant colors of the dials and straps are an exotic twist that is testimony to an endless research and development process, a process that obviously does not shy away from bold experimentations. The myriad of variations of the Daytona chronograph never fails to fascinate collectors in search of new gems, making the most unusual and rare versions highly sought-after and collectible timepieces. The "beach" line was launched at the beginning of the last decade and immediately became one of the most captivating models of the Daytona chronograph. It is not an overstatement to say that the present lot is the most complete Daytona Beach collection to ever appear at auction. Each of the four pieces is accompanied not only by box and papers, but also by the full original sale kit, including handkerchief, notebooks, pouches and literature. Considered the appeal such timepieces have on the market, and the difficulty of finding even only one of these watches with its full kit, the present lot can be truly defined a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the savvy Rolex collector.
