AN AMERICAN ACID-ETCHED PEACH-GLASS MIRROR

This intriguing mirror is a fragment from the Fox Theatre which stood in downtown Brooklyn on Flatbush Avenue until it was demolished in 1971. Designed by C. Howard Crane in 1927, the theatre was a popular concert venue which reached more notable fame from the 1950s through 1970s when famous disc jockey and music impresario Murray the K started a series of popular music shows featuring bands such as The Shirelles, the Shangri-Las and The Who. By repute it was in front of this large series of mirrors, which featured aquatic and underwater scenes, that he first coined the term “rock and roll.”
