CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK TO UNDERSIDE OF BASE
Naturalistically modelled by J.J.Kändler perched on top of a tree-stump, its plumage enriched in shades of grey, brown, blue and red, a lower branch applied with a nest and two chicks, the tree-stump with insects, leaves, mushrooms and a further small bird, on a rocaille-moulded ormolu base
18 in. (45.7 cm.) high overall

Specialist note

J.J. Kändler first modelled a pair of jays for Augustus the Strong's Japanese Palace in 1735 and the pair to the present model is normally shown with a squirrel at the base.
