The fitted top drawer of this elegant dressing-chest, with its sliding easel mirror, fitted compartments and concealed side drawer with writing-compartments, can be directly related to a design by Thomas Shearer, circa 1788, published in his Cabinet-Maker's London Book of Prices (G. Wills, English Furniture 1760-1900, London, 1971, p. 129, fig. 101).
