With pagoda toprail above a railed back and horseshoe seat on cabriole legs with pad feet and recessed castors, applied with a brass plaque engraved 'CHAIR IN WHICH EMILY BRONTË DIED 1848'
38 in. (96.5 cm.) high; 29 ¼ in. (74 cm.) wide

According to the plaque, Emily Brontë (d. 1848)

Specialist note

The later applied plaque to the back of the present armchair claims it to be where Emily Brontë, the famed author of Wuthering Heights, died in 1848. However, other sources say she died whilst sitting on a sofa at Haworth Parsonage, West Yorkshire.
