A fine volume of portraits of famous physicians and surgeons from antiquity to the point of publication. The first depicted is Asclépiade, the last Geoffrey St. Hilaire. Among the others are Astruc, Barthez, Bichat, Boerhaave, Caldini, Camper, Cardanus, Chauliac, Corvisart, Fernel, Galen, Gall, Haller, Hippocrates, Laennec, Lamarck, Le Cat, Le Dran, Levret, Paré, Paracelsus, Petit, Portal, Tiedemann and Winslow. A plate at the beginning shows moth sides of a medical medal for 1824.
