Vacheron Constantin. A Very Fine and Rare Chronograph Wristwatch with Unusual Lugs

The manufacturer has confirmed the present watch was produced in 1955.
Reference 6087, known as Cornes de Vache amongst collectors, is one of Vacheron Constantin's few chronograph models that was fitted with a water-resistant case, screw back, and rounded chronograph pushers, a look similar to the Patek Philippe reference 1463. However, the design of the reference 6087 is further enhanced by the unusual teardrop shaped lugs, giving the watch a distinguished and charismatic look.

Produced in the mid and late 1950's, only 36 examples of the reference 6087 were made: 26 in yellow gold, eight in pink gold, and two in platinum. The watches were produced with different dial colors and layouts, and some featured a tachometer scale.

The present example retains its original charm and appeal, with strong lug proportions, and a beautifully aged dial that features hard black enamel.

It is interesting to note that that both the case number and movement number of the present watch are four numerals away from an example sold at Christie's Geneva in 2011, indicating that all of the reference 6087 movements and cases were produced in series.

Following the reference 6087, Vacheron Constantin did not produce any other chronograph wristwatch until 1989, making their vintage chronographs highly desirable by collectors.
