Lot 346 The following works highlight an impressive selection of enamel and silver offered from an Important Swiss Collector. Including silver and enamelled works by such leading masters as Fabergé, Rückert, and Ovchinnikov this collection embodies the 'Russian Style’ and importance of the bread and salt ceremony in the second half of the nineteenth century. Decorated with proverbs relating to the home, family, friendship and fertility, these elaborately designed salt thrones were traditionally given to celebrate weddings and successful business relationships. Intricately enamelled and nielloed spoons in the collection further epitomise the Russian decorative tradition from the seventeenth through the nineteenth century. Unseen on the market since the 1980s, this carefully curated collection of salt thrones and spoons epitomises the art of fashionable table decoration in noble and wealthy Russian homes from 1870 to 1917.

Of traditional form, on slightly spreading base with four bracket feet, enamelled overall with scrolling foliage and geometric motifs in shades of green, orange brown, grey, pink and purple on blue and pale green grounds, the shaped zigzag back enamelled with alkonosts at the front and on reverse, the pointed raised sides with ball finials with blue beads, marked inside cover and under base
