Specialist note
The recipient of numerous orders from the Court Office, Friedrich Joseph Kolb worked in St Petersburg at the turn of the nineteenth century. A similar teapot with reeded spout and engraved with the Imperial double-headed eagle below the Imperial Crown, by Johan Henrik Blohm, 1796 is held in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, RES.63.73a-b. (A. Odom, Russian Silver in America: Surviving the Melting Pot, London, 2011, pp. 27 and 93). A related tea-pot was sold Christie’s, London, 10 June 2008, lot 86.
