The collector of these paintings had a trading business in Hong Kong. He enjoyed Chinese paintings from when he was young and was acquainted with prominent Lingnan artists. As he particularly enjoyed bamboo, bird and flower paintings as a subject matter, many of the artists gifted such works to him.
