Specialist note

This painting was a gift from Zhang Daqian to a personal friend of Dr. Cui. The artist painted it in honour of the friend's publication of a translation of a Chinese story into Italian.
Cui Daolu (Tsui Tao Lu 19182002), was a native of Jingsu, Dongtai. In 1943 Cui graduated from the Yunnan Kunming National Southwestern Associated University, Law Department, and acted as teacher's assistant at Peking University in 1946. He received a grant for overseas study in 1947, and travelled to the University of Rome to study law and was Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1952. In 1953, Cui studied international law at Columbia University, New York, under the tutelage of Dr. Philip C. Jessup, and received his master's degree in 1958. In 1974 Cui moved to Miami, Florida and worked at the local courthouse for over twenty years.
