ATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS, CIRCA 1815
The moulded cornice with a plain frieze above ormolu-grille doors, the centre doors enclosing eight adjustable shelves, the outer doors each enclosing five shelves and with chanelled stiles with scrolled foliate corbels, the lower section with panelled doors, each enclosing two adjustable shelves and with similar stiles, on a moulded plinth base

Specialist note

The bookcase, with its flame-figured mahogany, Grecian-reeded pilasters and acanthus-wrapped trusses, relates to those supplied for Glynllifon, Wales and invoiced in 1823 by Gillow of London and Lancaster as having "green silk trellis, carved trusses". This bookcase is very similar in scale and character to those supplied by Gillows for the Library at Tatton Park, Cheshire, in 1811, in particular to one of the free-standing bookcases on the north wall of the library and to Gillows' design for this bookcase (see Nicholas Goodison and John Hardy, "Gillows at Tatton Park", Furniture History Society journal , Vol. VI, 1970, plates 6A, 6B and 7A, and plate 7B, showing the design).
