Specialist note

Several versions of this composition by Vinckboons and his studio are known and there has been some discourse on which is the prime. K. Goossens (in: David Vinckboons, Soest, 1954, p. 112) considers the painting in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (inv. no. 1417) to be the prototype. The RKD, The Hague, suggests that the original painting is that in the Museo de Bellas Artes of Buenos-Aires.
