Specialist note

Reference 6239 is the first Rolex chronograph with the tachymetre scale engraved on the bezel: the trademark of what is destined to become one of the most successful, desired and recognizable line of timepieces ever created. Launched in 1963 in the U.S.A., and the following year in Europe, the Daytona Cosmograph revolutionized the market of sport watches. Due to the intense wear these pieces were subjected to, it is very difficult to find an example in such impressive condition as the present watch. Equally rare are examples with black dial. When these two features combine with the exceptionally scarce and comparably sought-after Tiffany & Co. signature on the dial, the collectability of the piece simply skyrockets. The American market destination is further confirmed by the ROW designation engraved on the bridge of the balance wheel, and by the beautifully preserved Rolex USA bracelet.
