CIRCA 1770-75, IN THE MANNER OF CHARLES TOPINO
The top inlaid with a central oval depicting a village scene with Chinese figures, the frieze fitted with a green velvet-lined writing-slide and a side drawer, above undertier inlaid with vases and jugs, on cabriole legs, largely remounted

Specialist note

Charles Topino (d. 1803), of the rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine specialised in light, delicate furniture often enriched with marquetry panels of trompe l'oeil. He was employed as a specialist marqueteur by several marchands-merciers as well as his fellow ébénistes, Pierre Pioniez, Nicolas Petit and Léonard Boudin.
