A PAIR OF EMPIRE ORMOLU NINE-LIGHT CANDELABRA

These candelabra relate to a design which features a closely related basket held aloft by figures (although with putti rather than maidens). The design attributed to Feuchère and dated circa 1820 is inscribed '7790 bronze & cuirs/doréieurs', and is in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Cabinet des Estampes, Paris. The decoration to the base, which includes lyres and swans, also appears on a tazza dated circa 1830 featuring three lyre-playing putti beneath its basket (which, coincidentally, also features on the étagères in the previous entry) at Schloss Rosenberg, Copenhagen (Vergoldete Bronzen, p. 388, fig. 5.16.16).
