Specialist note

The Twentieth Century Fox production directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz stared Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor; it is also known for its lavish sets and spiralling production costs which not only made it one of the most expensive films ever made, but the only film in history to make a loss despite being the highest grossing film of the year when released.
