Specialist note

A precise dating of this spoon is problematic. Kent in his West Country book says (P. 125) that the London Wardens found no Quicks working in Barnstaple when they visited the town in 1633 suggesting that the family had finished with goldsmithing by this date but How, Vol. I, section XIII, P.311 says the Puritan spoon was first found in England towards the end of the reign of Charles II suggesting a date around 1643 as it's first appearance in this country.
