The present reference 16520 is a rare example of the automatic Daytona model, featuring brown color-change chapter rings around the subsidiary dials. According to research, a technical error in the paint of the registers track on watches produced in 1992 and 1993 caused the color to change from dark to light. Such watches were given the nickname "Compax Marroni" or "Brown Compax" by collectors, and are highly sought-after in today's market.
For an illustration and description of a "Brown Compax" dial, see Rolex Daytona - a legend is born by Carlo Pergola, Stefano Mazzariol, and Giovanni Dosso, page 225.
