Edward Wolfe, R.A. (1897-1982)

Wolfe’s involvement with the Omega Workshops developed his interest in abstract painting. From working with abstract decoration and design he began to explore non-representational forms in his easel painting. At the time, ‘painting the abstract was still considered very avant-garde and beyond comprehension not only by the public at large, but even the most expert practitioners of the arts themselves’ (J.R Taylor, Edward Wolfe, London, 1986, p. 16).
