Attributed to Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi, il Bolognese (Bologna 1606-1680 Rome)
A river landscape with a pollard tree and a boatman
with inscription 'Francisque Bolognese' and with number '60' (in the margin on the backing paper)
traces of black chalk, pen and brown ink
6 x 8½ in. (15.2 x 21.5 cm.)

P. Crozat (L. 3612), with his number '254'.
Anonymous sale; Christie's, London, 6 July 1982, lot 16, as Grimaldi.

Note du spécialiste

Related to Grimaldi's print (Bartsch XIX.99.27), with some minor differences. Despite being in reverse to the print it does not seem to be the final preparatory drawing for the engraving.
