FIRST EDITION of the radical reformer and autodidact's only book. Controversially, it was among the first books to suggest the use of birth control to avoid the burden of a large family. It also 'criticized Malthus for his ignorance of the conditions in which the poor lived and Godwin for giving up all hope for their improvement' (ODNB). Goldsmiths' 23493; Kress C.943.
