oval, 2.5/8 in. (72 mm.) high, gilt-metal frame with enamel and pearl reverse with diamond-set initial 'K', in hinged fitted red leather case

Specialist note

According to D. Foskett (op. cit., p. 517), the present miniature is by Charlotte Hadfield, the sister of Richard Cosway's wife, Maria Hadfield (1759/1760-1838). Charlotte married 'William Combe, the comic poet, noted for his Tours of Dr. Syntax, etc.'
