Specialist note

The present watch is a very fine example of Rolex reference 3525 and without doubt one of the best preserved examples to appear in public in recent years. Made circa 1946, it is from the last series of this reference with both the reference and serial number engraved between the lugs. In earlier examples, these numbers were situated on the outside of the case back.

Production of reference 3525 was launched in 1939. The model was made in stainless steel, yellow and pink gold, as well as a combination of steel and gold (be it yellow or pink). Different versions in regard to case material and dial layout are illustrated in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, pp. 96-107, and in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 162-192.
