Specialist note

With Rolex Guarantee dated 4 November 1968.

Rolex reference 5500 was launched in 1957 and could carry various names on the dial ranging from Air King to Explorer to Metropolitan and even Everest. Sometimes the names were replaced and personalized for companies. They could, for example, read Coca Cola, Dominos Pizza or Winn Dixie. The case of reference 5500 was slightly smaller than that of later Explorer sister reference 1016, which is Rolex's longest running Explorer model and was in production from 1963 to 1989.
