Each square, on four scroll feet, with incurved corners and gadrooned borders, the field engraved with a coat-of-arms beneath a Baron's coronet, each marked on reverse, also engraved on reverse No. 1 18=12½, No. 2 18=14, No. 3 18, No. 4 18 = 12½

Specialist note

The arms are those of Monson, probably for John, first Baron Monson (b. 1693-1748). In 1725, he married, Lady Margaret Watson, daughter of Lewis, first Earl of Rockingham. John, 2nd Baron Monson (1727-1774), succeeded to the Barony in 1748.

The Rt. Hon. Lord Monson sold an extensive collection of silver by Paul Crespin, Paul Storr and others from Sotheby's London in 1951. The Crespin plate, dating from 1734-49, encompassed 15 lots, including the present set of four waiters and another slightly larger pair, 48 dinner plates and varied meat and serving dishes.
