How to sell

A MONOGRAMMED AND DATED DIAMOND-POINT-ENGRAVED TALL FLUTE
1662, THE NETHERLANDS, LATER METAL REPAIR TO STEM
Of slender tapering form, engraved with a continuous maritime scene of a figure emblematic of Fortune standing on a globe holding a billowing banner before a ship under sail, with pendant swags suspended from the waves, above the monogram CFM and the date 1662, on a hollow inverted baluster stem with later metal repair, on a spreading folded foot, repaired through stem, short crack to knop beside metal mount
17½ in. (44.5 cm.) high

Specialist note

The monogram CFM is recorded as an 'unknown master' by Carolus Hartmann in Glasmarken Lexikon, Stuttgart, 1997, p. 67, no. 1011. The subject matter alludes to the continued good fortune of Dutch naval supremacy of the period.
