Born Dessau, Germany, 1940. Studied at Staaliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, 1964-1971, where he was taught by Joseph Beuys. Solo exhibitions include: Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 1996; Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, 1997; Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, 2004; Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, 2006; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Monterrey, Mexico, 2006; Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, 2009; Albertina Contemporary, Vienna, 2011. He lives and works in Düsseldorf.
