ITALIAN, POSSIBLY TUSCANY, FIRST HALF 17TH CENTURY
The lid surmounted by a reclining female figure above a removable section enclosing a drawer, the angles carved with allegorical figures, on foliate and dolphin mask bracket feet, the interior lined with marbled paper, with label to the underside inscribed 'Royal Academy of Arts, Exhibition of 17th Century European Art 1938, carved wooden box Professor A.E. Richardson A.R.A. Lender'

Specialist note

According to the paper label, this casket was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1938, in the 'Exhibition of 17th Century European Art'. However, no record of this casket is found in the actual exhibition catalogue, thus suggesting that this casket was submitted after the publication of the catalogue.
