Specialist note
St Bartholomew's Hospital is the oldest hospital in London, having been founded in 1123, and the oldest in the United Kingdom that still occupies its original site. Professor Sir Albert Richardson was a member of the Hospital's board of Governors during the 1920s and it was during this time that he would probably have been presented with this stave.
