The cover chased in relief with a man in medieval costume tending to two hounds, with animals and birds to either side, within a surround of flowers and scrolls, on textured ground, the sides and base plain, the inside of the cover later inscribed Given by The Marquess Wellesley, when Ambassador in Spain in 1809, to Sir William Knighton Bart: and presented by his son, the 2nd. Bart: to Fred.k Dawes Danvers Esq.re by whose son, Sir Juliard Danvers K.C.S.I. it was given in 1889, to Wm. Frederick Danvers Smith, Grandson of the said F.D. Danvers, in fitted case retailed by Elkington and Co.
