Specialist note

Bearing the signature of Gaspar Pieter Verbruggen II, this pair of still-lifes has now been recognised by Fred Meijer, of the RKD, The Hague, as the work of his son-in-law and pupil, Jacobus Melchior van Herck, a member of the Antwerp guild between 1698 and 1735.
