Art Market, New York, by circa 1950, as 'Gaspar Pieter Verbruggen', when acquired by the father of the present owner.

Specialist note

Bearing the signature of Gaspar Pieter Verbruggen II, this pair of still-lifes has now been recognised by Fred Meijer, of the RKD, The Hague, as the work of his son-in-law and pupil, Jacobus Melchior van Herck, a member of the Antwerp guild between 1698 and 1735.
