Specialist note
Tiffany's gradual transformation of electric lamps into three-dimensional expressions of nature culminated in a bold series of leaded glass shades based on the pendant blossoms of wisteria. Described in the Tiffany Studios Price List of 1906 as "Wistaria, lamp and shade, large" at a cost of $400, the shade's form was undoubtedly inspired by the meandering vines of wisteria growing in The Briars, Tiffany's luxurious gardens adjacent to Laurelton Hall.
