Specialist note

Th?odore Culty (1870-1965) was a dealer and great connoisseur of Chinese art and acquired works for the Mus?e Guimet of Paris among other institutions. Born in Japan in 1870, to a Japanese mother and French father, he first came to China in 1901 as a businessman selling wines. Greatly passionate about Chinese art, he decided to settle in Bejing and open his first Chinese art gallery there. In 1925, he established a Chinese art gallery in Paris, and split his time between Beijing and Paris with his family for 20 years until 1945.
