Specialist note

The present work was commissioned by August Jaccaci, Theodore Robinson's good friend and the art editor at Scribner's magazine. Robinson worked on the painting in the winter of 1894-95, completing the canvas in May of 1895.

This painting will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work being compiled by Ira Spanierman and Sona Johnston.
