Specialist note

This model of tray formed part of a "Sugar and Water Set" for serving absinthe that was exhibited at the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris. The full service, which included an ice-water pitcher, sugar bowl, flacon and tray, is illustrated in a Tiffany & Co. archival photograph, circa 1878, in Christie's, New York, 10 December 1998. The identical tray is illustrated as lot 313.
