QIANLONG PERIOD, LAST QUARTER 18TH CENTURY
Each of baluster outline surmouted by a domed lid with berried finial, the gilt and red swags and floral sprays against an off-white ground above an overlapping lotus border, on a waisted socle, one labelled to underside of lid 'SOIC: 120'

Probably acquired from Mallett by the Hon. Mrs. Marten, O.B.E., D.L., for Crichel, Dorset.

Specialist note

Vases such as these were first made in faience in 1773 by the Swedish Marieberg factory, predominantly in orange and blue colours. A faience and Chinese export example now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, is illustrated in C. Le Corbeiller, China Trade Porcelain, pattern of exchange New York, 1973, pp. 162-3.
