The centre painted in the centre with a view of De vitte vrouwen Poort te Utrecht., named on the reverse in black script, within a gilt and ochre shaded rocaille cartouche, the border with three sprays of flowers within scroll and flower-moulded oval cartouches heightened in gilding, within a blue feathered border and gilt dentil rim (small flat chip to rim at 10 o'clock, minor wear to enamels and gilding)
9 5/8 in. (24.6 cm.) diam.

18th century Utrecht was protected by city walls and an encircling canal. The view depicted on this plate is of De witte vrouwen poort de Utrecht (or White Ladies gate), situated on the eastern side of the city by a bridge of the same name. It was one of only four entrances to the city at this time, and though the bridge remains the original buildings have been destroyed. vitte vrouwen refers to the cloister that stood nearby until 1710.
