Nicaise de Keyser (Zandvliet 1813-1887 Antwerp)

Nicaise de Keyser debuted as a painter of religious paintings, however, later on in his career he started focussing on historical subjects. After the Revolution in 1830 de Keyser found himself mainly painting scenes from his own country's history, of which this painting is a fine example.
