Specialist note

The present watch is a fine example of an early Rolex Datejust in pink gold with attractive dial, not yet bearing the Datejust signature. The watch face has taken a warm sandy copper patina in the centre, further highlighting the alternating red and black numerals on the date disc. When introduced in 1945, the Datejust was marketed as the world's first automatic wristwatch with a date appearing in an aperture at three o'clock and being of "Officially Certified Chronometer" quality. The watch further stands out by its very good and original overall condition, displaying a sharp gold mark under the lower right lug and crisp milling on the back.
