Specialist note
These candlesticks were designed by Louis Constant Sévin (d. 1888), who was sculpteur-ornemaniste to the prolific bronzier Ferdinand Barbedienne (d. 1892). They were finished by Désiré Attarge (d. 1878), a ciseleur-ornemaniste to Barbedienne, whose skilled precision as a chaser was said to transform bronze into goldsmith's work.
