ONE STAMPED MDLP, MID 18TH CENTURY
Each with an arched toprail centred by a carved floral spray, the outscrolled arms, back and seat covered in a floral-printed Le Manach cotton, on cabriole legs, one with the backrail stamped 'MDLP', repairs and restorations to the legs

Specialist note

One of this pair of marquises bears the stamp of a member of the Delaporte family, a dynasty of Parisian ébènistes active during the eighteenth century and mainly represented by Martin Delaporte (maître in 1738, died 1756), apprentice of Charles Cresson around 1725, and his two nephews, also ébènistes, Antoine-Nicolas (maître in 1762) and Martin-Nicolas (maître in 1765).
The stamp of 'MDLP' is most probably that of Martin Delaporte whose workshop flourished on rue des Filles-Dieu-Saint-Sauveur around 1730-1740.
