Specialist note
Minton exhibited two parian groups of Children with Goat at the Great Exhibition of 1851. They are drawn from this full group and thought to be Carrier-Belleuse's earliest works for Minton, made shortly after his arrival in England. A terracotta of the full group is recorded in the collection of David Barclay, London. The present lot is cast in superior gilt-bronze by the premier Raingo Frères foundry.
