A LARGE IVORY PAGODA AND ORIGINAL DOMED GLASS CASE
19TH CENTURY
The seven-tier building is intricately carved and pierced with the sloping roofs suspending bells from each corner, set within a fenced garden terrace with trees and bamboo, a dignatory with four-robed attendants stands beneath an arched gateway with an auspicious inscription "Liu Ao Qi Xiang" that may be loosely translated "The six turtles in the ocean".
The pagoda 24 in. (61 cm.) high, wood stand and glass cover

Specialist note

The pagoda may have been made as one of a pair as the inscription is a shortened version of a famous seven-character couplet, the second part of which refers to cranes in heaven.
