Specialist note

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with diamond and ruby-set case back, red enamel band and diamond-set bow in 1897 and its subsequent sale on October 12th, 1897.

To the best of our knowledge this watch has never before been offered in public.

The cuvette is inscribed Marie Oge Beale. Research indicates Mrs. Beale (1880-1956) was a Washington DC hostess and philanthropist married to Truxtun Beale (1856-1936) US Ambassador to Persia (1891), Greece, Romania and Serbia (1892). The family home Decatur House on LaFayette Square was bequeathed to the National Trust for Historic Perservation by Mrs. Beale in 1956. Today the house is home to the National Center for White House History.
