Specialist note

A graduate from Poh Chang School of Arts and Crafts, Kid Kosolawat was a regular participant of the early editions of the National Exhibition of Art, Thailand. He believed in the value of having a fundamental understanding of the 'realistic' above and beyond 'abstract'; it is this principle that gives his compositions sense of realism despite its dream-like qualities. Kosolawat is a consummate observer of the ritualistic and religious culture that is a defining feature of life in Thailand. Lending his artistic eye, he captures the culture of Thailand in his dazzling and effervescent interpretations of temples and villages. At The Temple (Lot 344) is an archetype of his body of work in terms of subject-matter, and its rich jewel-like strokes of cobalt, vermillion and gold are iconic within his repertoire, thus proving to be a unique and collectible work by Kosolawat.
