Specialist note

The present drawing does not appear to relate to any known oil portrait of Emma Hamilton. She is depicted with a flute as Calypso (Waddesdon Manor), though the pose is quite different and again with a flute in a painting of her as a crouching Bacchante (Kimball Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas).
