A LOUIS XV PROVINCIAL OAK CLOCK ARMOIRE,

This impressive combination of longcase clock and armoire is typical of the regions of Liège (now part of Belgium) and Aachen, (now part of Germany). Related cabinets from Aachen, executed in oak and featuring the same distinctive rocaille carving and also incorporating clocks are illustrated in H. Schmitz, Deutsche Möbel des Barock & Rokoko, Stuttgart, 1923, pp. 212 and 218. A related longcase clock is illustrated op. cit.,p. 261-it is interesting to note that Joseph Colart, the maker of the clock offered here is from Namur, in the same region as Liège.
