Presented to H.R.H. The Princess Mary, Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965) for her son, George Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood (1923-2011), on the occasion of his birth, by Eleanor Sandhurst (d.1934), and by descent at Harewood House, Yorkshire.

Specialist note

This lot is accompanied by a letter dated 6th February 1923 from Eleanor Sandhurst to H.R.H. The Princess Mary, Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965).

Eleanor Sandhurst was the daughter of the poet Matthew Arnold and the grand-daughter of the educational reformer Thomas Arnold, and was the widow of 2nd Lord Sandhurst, Lord Chamberlain (1912-21).
